KereKere is named after the concept that inspired it - 'KereKere', a Fijian custom in which a relative or neighbour can request something that is needed and it must be willingly given with no expectation of repayment. This spirit is the core of the KereKere social and business model – give without expectation.

KereKere was founded by James Murphy. James is an entrepreneurial social worker who brings together his passions for community well being, the environment, good food and quality living.

KereKere started out as a coffee vendor at The University of Melbourne in 2007. KereKere's original coffee cart has given way to a purpose built Kiosk designed to create a precinct for people to relax, relate, read and meet friends.

The KereKere culture of generosity seeks to inspire a new generation of community minded, ethical consumers and we would love to see KereKere sprouting up at other locations over the next few years.
